Salah heads Pharoh squad for Group G

Chelsea’s winger Mohamed Salah and ten other foreign-based players have been called up by Egypt’s national coach Shawky Gharib for the first round of Africa Cup of Nations 2015 qualifiers.

The list also includes Salah’s Premier League fellow countryman Ahmed Elmohamady of Hull City, Sporting Lisbon duo of defender Rami Rabia and midfielder Mahmoud Abdel-Razik ‘Shikabala’ together with other Portugal-based Aly Ghazal, Saleh Gomaa (Madeira) and Ahmed Hassan ‘Koka’ (Rio Ave), Basel pair Mohamed El-Nenny and Ahmed Hamoudi, Grasshopper Zurich’s Mahmoud Abdel-Moneim ‘Kahraba’ and Fiorentina’s defender Ahmed Hegazy.

The Pharaoh will resume a training camp on August 25 in Aswan while the foreign-based players will only join the rest of the group on August 30.

Looking to compete in their first Afcon finals since winning the trophy for the third consecutive time in Angola in 2010, after failing to qualify for the 2012 and 2013 editions, Egypt find themselves in a diggicult Group G with Senegal, Tunisia and Botswana.

Egypt will kick-off their qualifying campaign against Senegal in Dakar on September 5 before hosting the Tunisians five days later.
