Nwakali joins Dons on loan

Aberdeen today completed the loan signing of Manchester City midfielder Chidiebere Nwakali until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old Nigerian met up with this morning at their warm winter training camp in Dubai.

He will feature in their friendly against Lokomotiv Tashkent on Sunday subject to clearance of a work permit.

A Nigerian U20 international Nwakali won the U17 World Cup in 2013 and was recently on loan at Norwegian top flight side Sogndal Fotball.

Nwakali was on Manchester City’s tour of the USA in July and also signed a one-year contract extension with the Premiership leaders last summer.

The midfielder had previously been on loan at Norwegian side Start and also spent time on loan at Spanish side Malaga B.

Dons boss Derek McInnes moved quickly to replace midfielder Greg Tansey, who has joined Ross County on loan until the end of the season.

McInnes said: “He is a player we have been looking at for quite a while and we are delighted to have him on board.

“I am sure he will prove to be a valuable addition.”

Nwakali’s younger brother Kelechi, 19, is currently at Arsenal.
