Aluko looking forward showing what he can do

Sone Aluko joined Reading from Sky Bet Championship rivals Fulham on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee as the summer transfer window wound down and is looking forward to showing the Royals fans what he can do.

Reports suggest Aluko has become the Royals' club-record signing, with the 28-year-old costing around £7.5million.

Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic urged the club not to sell the forward when Reading's interest first became known earlier this summer, but a deal has now been struck for a player who scored nine goals for the Cottagers last season. Aluko says Reading boss Jaap Stam was key in persuading him to make the switch

"It's the right move for me. I spoke to the manager and he really sold it to me.

"Ive played against them a few times and they play a good brand of football, Where he wants me to fit in to the team was attractive to me too, Ultimately it was he who sold the move to me. I was fortunate that it went through and I get to show what I can do."

Stam told his club's official website: 'In Sone we welcome a quality player into our squad.

'With his pace and ability on the ball, he can make life difficult for every opponent we face this season and he has experience of playing at the level we want to play at.

'He poses a threat going forward, he keeps the ball well, he can play as a striker or out on the wing and I am sure he will improve us as a squad. So I'm very happy that he has chosen to join us.'

Aluko is linking up again with Paul McShane, the Reading skipper who is played alongside the 28-year-old forward for Hull City in the 2012/13 season

"[Aluko] is a good lad - I had a great time with him at Hull and then we were split up, I left Hull and he stayed there for another year,” McShane told the club website.

"I’m glad now that he’s here because I think he’s a very, very good player and he can definitely make a difference.

"He’s a very good player, very skillful, always playing against Fulham you knew he was a big threat.

“You’d always be looking out for those pockets he’d pick up between the midfield and defence, he was very productive for Fulham so hopefully he can bring that form into Reading and take us to the next level," he concluded.
