Samba completes Dinamo switch

Christopher Samba and two other Russian stars of Anzhi Makhachkala on Thursday left the Dagestan side to join Moscow rivals Dinamo Moscow.

Dinamo presented Congo international Samba, midfielder Alexei Ionov and goalkeeper Vladimir Gabulov at a news conference in Moscow. They join three other Russian internationals who joined Dinamo earlier this month from Anzhi in an unprecedented player exodus.

Anzhi has over the last weeks sold off an entire first team of quality players to Russian and foreign clubs after owner Suleiman Kerimov decided to dramatically downsize the club's ambitions and budget.

"We had some good things going on at Anzhi," said Samba. "But I think that the decision of the club to change the structure meant we went apart in terms of ambition. I am grateful to Dinamo for giving me this opportunity. I am looking to have an even better time here."

Dinamo's manager, the former Romania and Chelsea player Dan Petrescu, hailed the arrival of the new players. "Every coach of quality is happy when players of quality come to the club," he said.

Dinamo Moscow already signed a trio of Russian internationals from Anzhi - Russian captain Igor Denisov, former Chelsea midfielder Yury Zhirkov and striker Alexander Kokorin. The arrival of the six from Anzhi could significantly boost the ambition of the Moscow side, currently eighth in the Russian Premier League.
