Gervinho: I was happy to leave London

Arsenal flop Gervinho admits he is relieved to have ended his hell in north London.

The Ivorian suffered dips in form and failed to make an impact at Arsenal following his £10.8m move from Lille in 2011.

He sealed a switch to Roma earlier this summer to play under his former coach in France Rudi Garcia and says he will prosper under him.

The £8m man said: "It was a real pleasure for me playing for Arsenal, but after two years of ups and downs it was time for a change.

"Roma is a great team with a great coach. I had no hesitation in accepting their offer.

"I have always had a good relationship with Garcia - he has always given me confidence, and was the first to deploy me on the wing.

"I want to show I can contribute to this team. I am not in top condition at the moment, but Garcia knows me well and knows that I still have some work to do to get fit."
