Wakaso joins Russian exodus with Rubin move

Espanyol have agreed to sell their Ghana midfielder Mubarak Wakaso to Rubin Kazan pending a medical, the La Liga club said on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old had asked to leave after receiving an offer from the Russian side and a deal had been sealed that was satisfactory for all three parties, Espanyol said on their website (www.rcdespanyol.com).
Wakaso told Espanyol TV: "I want to say sorry to the club, the players and the fans because I have asked to leave although they didn't want me to.

"It was the opportunity for my future. When I got the offer I called the president many times to get him to accept as it was important for me."

It is believed Rubin Kazan will pay $8 million (£5.2m) for the 23-year-old winger, who only joined the Catalans from Villarreal last summer.

A statement on the Espanyol website read: "Espanyol and Rubin Kazan have reached an agreement on Wednesday for the transfer of Mubarak Wakaso to the Russian team, as soon as he has passed a medical with his new club.

Wakaso's only season with Los Pericos was dogged by disciplinary problems as he was sent-off twice and picked up a further 13 bookings.
